The Department of Education delivers the largest swimming and water safety education program in the southern hemisphere. Each year, the Department provides lessons to over 250,000 students through the Interm Swimming and VacSwim programs. This historic program has been running for more than 100 years, making it one of the oldest and most enduring government led swimming education initiatives in the world. The widespread delivery of these inclusive and accessible programs ensures that children of all backgrounds and abilities can have access to high quality water safety instruction at minimal cost.
From regional towns to city beaches, it has equipped generations of Western Australian children with the essential survival and swimming skills necessary to safely enjoy the aquatic recreation which is central to the WA way of life.
